MIDI editing question ...

Here's my deal. I am recording drums in the piano roll editor using a midi controller and drum software. I record in sections, meaning I'll record a kick and snare beat, then go back and layer a cymbal or something. This produces both recordings and I am able to hear both. However this creates a new midi piece on the same track that I have to click on separately in order to view in the piano roll. I would like to be able to combine these 2 recordings so that I will be able to view them and edit them at the same time. I tried using the manual, looking for something like "combining midi tracks" or something similar, but cannot find a solution. Any help is appreciated.
