Logic 9 Upgrade to a new Imac ...

I've ordered one of the new quad core iMacs and would like to do a clean install of Logic Studio as I ran into problems when I upgraded from 7 to 8 with the missing EXS sample problem.

Since I am a registered Logic owner, if I purchase the upgrade package for Logic 9 can I do a clean install on my new iMac without having 8 installed. I assume there will be some sort of validation when I use the upgrade to ensure I own 8. What is it and has anyone done a clean install from the upgrade dvds
